ROBERT LONGO was born in 1953 and lives in New York. His charcoal-graphite drawings and cast relief sculpture have been exhibited widely in the U.S. and Europe since his first show at Metro Pictures in 1981, including the group shows "Westkunst," "Documenta 7," the 1983 Whitney Biennial and "New Art at the Tate Gallery." In 1983, he had concurrent exhibitions at Leo Castelli and Metro Pictures, and is currently having a one-person show at the Akron Art Museum (catalogue available). His work will be included in the Museum of Modern Art's "An International Survey of Recent Painting and Sculpture," the Sydney Biennial, the Venice Biennale and at the Centre Pompidou in Paris this summer. A monograph on Longo's "Men in the Cities" series is being published by Harry Abrams.

In his latest work, Longo combines painting, drawing and sculptural elements in large-scale multi-paneled pieces juxtaposing a variety of materials and images containing references to mass culture, architecture and art history.
